This time Google comes with a new search algorithm, dubbed as ‘mobile first indexing system.’

Because our search engines were only able to look into the desktop version of a website. This can cause the issue, while a mobile page contains less content than a desktop version. According to some reports, major part (80% approx) of the internet user relied on their smartphones for their daily needs, because it is handy, simple or whatever easy to do task. In term, this change leads Google to work much time to serve better to its mobile users.

To make the search results more relevant and useful, the new search algorithm ‘mobile first indexing system‘ will primarily consider the mobile version of a website to understand the structured data and show snippets from that page, and determine the ranking of the webpage. While the whole indexing process looks into the mobile version of a webpage, Google using a single indexing system for all websites and apps to bring a brand new experience to both the mobile and desktop users.

This isn’t the first time. Previously, Google released several updates intend to improve mobile friendly system according to increasing mobile users.

Google released ‘mobilegeddon’ and its follow-up in 2015 and 2016 to reward websites that offered mobile compatibility and make the web a mobile friendly place.

What is mobile friendly Web?

A website or a web page that is fully optimised for mobile compatibility. It means, the page load properly and each and every element on that page is clearly visible on a mobile device. The text can be read without zooming and scrolling and images are optimised for mobile screen resolution with minimum size is called mobile friendly. But, it often takes extra efforts to make your website optimised to the mobile device.

  • “However, the mobile first indexing system will not change your existing ranks of your website significantly,” claimed Google.
  • There is no need to change things on a responsive site or a dynamic serving site where the primary content and markup is very same on mobile and desktop.

  • Define structured markup for both the desktop and mobile site separately.
  • Ensure verify your site accessible to Googlebot, with robots.txt testing tools.
